I can’t believe another year is about to come to an end. Last year I wrote my first End of Year Running Review and I loved it so this year I am writing another one and linking up with Eat, Pray, Run DC again.
When I wrote last year’s post, I thought I didn’t run/race much and then I realized I had a pretty eventful and productive running year. This year I again thought “I didn’t do much” and this time it is actually true. 2016 was a rough running year for me.
I started the year out strong, training for my second full marathon – Big Sur. Unfortunately I got injured a little over halfway through training and was unable to participate in the race. After that ordeal, I took some time off from running and almost ended the year without doing ANY running races!
- 1 Stair Climb
- 1 MuckFestMS mud run
- 4 5ks
- 1 new race state – Georgia
Best race experience
I would have to say the MuckFest MS mud run. It was so much fun! The crowd and atmosphere were great and I laughed a lot during the race!
I had my speediest 5k at the Chocoholic Frolic, which was surprising because it ended up being much warmer than I expected and I was overdressed! Also loved finishing a race and being rewarded with chocolate!
Best new piece of running gear
I honestly didn’t purchase much during 2016 so I will have to go with my latest purchase – new running shoes!! Hoping they carry me into a healthy and productive 2017. I love my Asics!
Most inspirational runner
So many runners inspire me including my Running Inspiration interviewees: Jen, Tina Muir, and Cecilia. They reminded me that everyone is running their own race – no matter your age, location, or ability. I truly love the running community and how wonderful and supportive everyone is!
Favorite picture from a run or race this year
I love this picture my aunt captured of me crossing the finish line of the 5k in Georgia. I wish I had a personal photographer all the time! 🙂
I also loved that after the Twin Cities marathon 5k, they sent me an email with a video of me crossing the finish line. They sent it within an hour or so after the race. I don’t even know how they did that logistically.
Race experience you would repeat in a heartbeat
Tough decision – MuckFestMS, Chocoholic Frolic, and the annual Turkey Trot!
If you could sum up your year in a couple of words, what would they be?
Difficult, challenging, change and growth.
Best running advice you’ve received this year
I’m struggling with this one so I will ask if you all received any running advice this year?
Looking forward to most in 2017
I have 3 spring races on the docket – Little Rock half marathon, Hot Chocolate 15k, and the Rock n’ Roll Nashville half marathon. Here’s hoping for a great running year in 2017!
