Exercise is fun!! As you know, I love running and I have my tenth half marathon coming up on Saturday, but with the increase in heat and humidity, I am not loving running right now. After this next race, I plan to take a break from distance running for a little while.
So I think this will be a great time to try new workouts and shake things up! Last week I had a wide variety of workouts so thought I would share with you today.
Monday – Planet Fitness
Monday is usually a running day and since it was raining, I opted for an indoor workout. I was not feeling very energetic on Monday, so I ended up doing a short run (around 1 mile) on the treadmill and then did 20 minutes on the elliptical. I still wasn’t feeling it so I called it a day.
Tuesday – Barre Class
I am still on ClassPass (<– $30 off for new members!! Affiliate link) so I went to barre class at Serenite Fitness. I have a love/hate relationship with barre. I feel like it’s good for me because it makes me sore in places I didn’t even know could get sore and works muscles that running does not but during it, I hate the tiny movements and holding poses until you shake violently (fun, right? :))
Wednesday – Bounce!
Wednesdays are usually running days as well but I needed to use up one more ClassPass class before the end of this cycle so I tried out a bounce class that claims “a minimum of 20 minutes on the trampoline is the equivalent of 1 hour on a treadmill” so that’s the same as running, right? I went to Studio51st and I loved it! We jumped on the trampoline for 3 songs then got off and did some toning moves (lunges and such), then jumped for 3 more songs and then finished with more toning, stretching, and abs. The jumping portion took more coordination than I thought, but I had a lot of fun!
Thursday – Pilates
On Thursday night, I went back to pilates at Whole Foods because Marathon Pilates is doing free pilates classes on Thursdays this month. I really enjoyed the prior week’s workout so I was happy to go back, especially for free!

Friday – Volleyball
I am in a volleyball league at the YMCA so on Friday night we had our second game. We play a 4×4 league but this night there were only 3 on each team. It actually went better than our first game, so it was a lot more fun.
Saturday – 5 mile training run
My last weekend training run before the half marathon on Saturday. The whole time during the run I was thinking, “ugh, it’s gonna be 30 degrees hotter on race day!” It was 55 degrees and mostly overcast during this run, which was perfect but the high on race day is 85-90. Yikes!
