Looking back at my blogging calendar, I realize it’s been 1 year since I wrote the post I Quit My Job & I’m Moving to Nashville. Where does the time go?! I thought I would share an update on life in Nashville and the entrepreneurial world.
Last November and December, I took time off to work on developing a business plan and setting up my website and getting things in order before launching my nutrition private practice in January. I spent time with family and friends (I was a bridesmaid in a wedding; holidays), relaxed, enjoyed some down time; and traveled to Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. I also began reaching out to and networking with people in Nashville.
January 2017 – Launched website; continued to reach out to people in Nashville; was in talks with a fitness center regarding a collaboration (never panned out). Began teaching an online sports nutrition class for my alma mater, University of Southern Indiana. Continued working as a Dietetic Internship Coach through All Access Internships. Began some social media work for another dietitian. Began as the Team Beef TN running group coordinator. Attended a Networking Under 40 event. And I booked my first private practice client!
February 2017 – Began working PRN as a dietitian at the YMCA; continued to network and meet people throughout Nashville. Applied and interviewed for a full-time dietitian job (I hit the ground running in January and then lost some motivation in February to continue “spinning my wheels”).
March 2017 – Went through Orangetheory Fitness training to be a coach there (unfortunately I didn’t make the cut). I had a booth at the Nashville Triathlon Club Expo. My sister and I began playing volleyball at YMCA (important to make time for personal/fun things too!).
April 2017 – Began talking with a private high school about consulting for their student athletes (also hasn’t panned out). Had my first virtual nutrition client. Gave a nutrition talk for a Triathlon group. Went to my first Creative Souls Hustle Hours. Looking back, this was my busiest month with individual nutrition clients.
May 2017 – Went on a Nebraska Beef Tour. Began talks with the owner of an online personal training company about providing nutrition services for his clients. Met with the CEO of NourishWise and wrote a nutrition article for them. Met some local Nashville dietitians. Was featured on the What RDs Do blog. Reached out to an IUAA (Alumni Association) board member and met up for drinks.
June 2017 – Met with the owner of another fitness studio and began talks of helping out with corporate wellness projects. Attended TN Women’s Chamber of Commerce event. Had first contact with the Tennessee Titans about consulting. Interviewed for a part-time community coordinator job at Athleta (was offered the gig but the pay was too low; I think it would’ve been a fun job though!). Attended a SCORE social media workshop. Interviewed for a part-time position working with a local start-up (was offered the job but it ultimately didn’t work out). Attended a Happy Hour meet-up for female entrepreneurs.
July 2017 – Attended my first Monday Funday (pic below – a group of girls that get together for wine, friendship, and casual networking). Had a phone interview with Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) about consulting. Collaborated with Garrett on a nutrition video. Participated in a group chat interview with Emily Field, RD. Went on vacation to Alaska and Vancouver for 12 days. When I got back from vacation, I had an in-person interview with the Titans. Began consulting on a corporate wellness virtual project.
August 2017 – Began working as nutrition consultant for the Titans. Continued to have a steady increase in private practice clients. Continued networking with local businesses and health professionals. Attended some networking events such as Nashville Chicks Who Launch, Monday Funday, Tuesdays Together, and Creative Souls. Found out I would be consulting for GSSI and the NBA G-league beginning in October. Attended a Media Training Workshop with Melissa Joy Dobbins (media RD) through the TN Beef Council.
September 2017 – Visited Chattanooga with the family over Labor Day weekend. Had a call with a lady about being the speaker at a nutrition clinic in Chattanooga in November. Attended my friend’s bachelorette party in Indianapolis. Attended GSSI 2-day training in Chicago (pic below). Began a Yoga for Runners 10 week program through Fleet Feet Nashville. Began giving a few nutrition convocations for Belmont University students. Looking back, this was my second busiest month with individual nutrition clients.
Conclusion – This past year has been a whirlwind! I can’t believe it’s been one year since I quit my full-time job and moved to Nashville. I have met a lot of people, really gotten outside of my comfort zone, and have been presented with a lot of great opportunities. The entrepreneurial life is not easy but I am hopeful my business will continue to grow and thrive and I am excited to see what the future holds!
