On Saturday morning, I ran the Rock & Road 5k as part of Team Beef TN. This was a cross country course on the steeplechase grounds of Percy Warner Park. The proceeds from the race go towards maintaining the Warner Parks.
On Thursday, I picked up my race packet. I got a short-sleeved shirt (love the color, don’t love the fit), my race bib, some Swiftwick socks(!!), and quite a few coupons and discounts for local products/services related to running, including Pure Sweat + Float.
On race day, I actually needed to run 10 miles for my last long run as part of my half marathon training. The 5k race didn’t start until 8:30am so I got up at 6am and ate my usual pre-long run breakfast of a bagel with peanut butter, a banana, and a glass of lowfat milk. Then I left and ran almost 3 miles prior to going to the race.
The race, like I said before, was a trail run so we were running on mostly grass and some rock rather than a paved path. Unfortunately since the mornings are dewy, this left my shoes in a bit of a mess, but otherwise it wasn’t too bad. The course was hilly so it was quite challenging but the weather was great.
Since we just added this race to the Team Beef race list at the beginning of October, I was the only one who signed up, but I am hopeful we can get more participants next year and maybe even do the 30 mile relay. You could also do the 30 mile race solo and they also had a doggy 5k this year.
After the race, I refueled with some energy gels while driving to another part of town to finish my miles for the morning. All in all I completed my 10 miles and then headed home to shower and eat!
