This month’s Running Inspiration feature runner is Janelle, fellow blogger over at Run With No Regrets. I love this crazy blogging world because it allows me to connect with other runners and overall great people! Here is Janelle:
Tell me a little about yourself.
My name is Janelle. I’m 30 years old and a chemical/environmental engineer working as a project manager in the natural gas industry. Other than running and blogging, I enjoy going to restaurants and spending time at home with my boyfriend and our 2 kittens.
How long have you been running?
I had a brief stint on the track team in high school but I started seriously running in January 2011.
What made you decide to start running?
Some friends from work encouraged me to sign up for the Broad Street Run, a popular 10 mile race in Philly. I figured I’d give it a shot and decided to train! The rest is history.
What is your favorite thing about running?
I love that it continues to challenge me, though that is often also a point of frustration! The running community inspires me every time I go out to run or go to a race. It has also been a great bonding experience for my boyfriend and me, as he is also a runner.
How many races have you done?
I have done 38 races from the 5K to marathon distance, in addition to 3 stair climbs and 3 mud runs (Warrior Dash,Tough Mudder, MS Muckfest).
What was your favorite race and why?
Oh it’s so hard to choose! I think the ½ Sauer ½ Kraut Half Marathon in Philly is one of my favorites! It’s German-themed with people dressed in costumes, but the race isn’t for the faint of heart! It’s a beautiful yet challenging course full of hills and a tough trail section that can get pretty muddy and it has one of the best post-race parties I’ve ever seen with beer, bratwurst, and live entertainment. There is even coffee cake, cookies, and candy at the finish line!
What is your most memorable race/running experience?
I’ll never forget my first half marathon, the Rock ‘N Roll Half in Philly. Everything went perfectly and I was so emotional that I was in tears of joy during the race as I realized my capabilities. I’ll also never forget finishing the Philly Marathon, my very first, even though I was in a complete daze by the end!
What is your favorite race distance?
My favorite distance is probably the half marathon. I think it’s the right length of time to run and some of my favorite races have been halfs.
Do you have any running goals?
My main running goal is to stay healthy and injury-free! I’ve had some injuries in the past and I hope that they stay there! I’m also hoping to get closer to my very first half marathon’s finish time of 2:10:53…if I could get under 2:15 this year, I’d be so happy! In addition to that, I’d like to run my second full marathon, the sooner, the better!
Are you currently training for any races?
I’ve just started training for the Love Run Half Marathon in Philadelphia on March 26, 2017. I’ll also be running the Rock ‘n Roll DC Half Marathon on March 11 and the Buffalo Half Marathon on May 28.
How has running made an impact on your life?
Running has definitely transformed my life. After all these years, I finally feel like I’m a runner. I spend a lot of my time running, talking about running, and blogging about running! And I’m grateful for it because it has become one of my passions.
What do you want other people to know about you/your running/running in general?
I want people to know that running isn’t just for the elites. Anyone can give it a try, and it doesn’t matter how fast you are. Just get out there and see what happens…you just may fall in love with it!
What is your favorite race medal/memorabilia?
One of my all-time favorite race medals is the Cherry Blossom Run of 2015. Such a great design!
