About Studio ME Fitness: Studio ME is located on historic St Anthony Main. Their website says, “We offer a variety of unique programs including: TRX Suspension Training, Bosu Balance training, Yoga, Shockwave, Indo-Row as well as small group and private training sessions. We are one of a few licensed facilities in MN that teach specialty classes of Indo-Row and SHOCKWAVE. Our classes accommodate ALL fitness levels and abilities with a focus on functional fitness to prepare you for everyday life.”
I heard about this studio from one of my blogger friends – Christina @ FourSeasonFit. She teaches TRX and Shockwave. I signed up for their free 3 class trial (awesome! But sadly, no longer offered). The first class I tried was TRX and the second was Shockwave Express (both taught by Christina).
TRX Description: “Born in the Navy SEALs, Suspension Training bodyweight exercise develops strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously. The TRX Suspension Trainer is the original, best-in-class workout system that leverages gravity and your bodyweight to perform hundreds of exercises. You’re in control of how much you want to challenge yourself on each exercise – because you can simply adjust your body position to add or decrease resistance.”
I had been to one TRX class before and this one was even better because I was a little more confident in what I was doing. The studio was small, which I liked. It felt like a group of friends getting together to workout and have fun. Christina was a great instructor. She is very upbeat and fun without making me feel bad about myself if my TRX skills weren’t up to par. (Don’t move to CO Christina!)
The class was 45 minutes long. She divided the class into circuits and short intervals, which made the class go fast. It was a total body workout. I felt it most in my back, arms, hamstrings (they were already sore before the class), outer and inner thighs (not sure why the inner thighs?!). It was the kind of sore where you wake up the next day like “yeah, ok I feel a little sore” and then as the day wore on, especially since I sit most of the day, every time I got up I was more sore and thought “oh there it is”.
Bottom Line: I really enjoyed my first group fitness class at Studio ME Fitness. I have since taken several other classes at this studio and I really enjoy the small class sizes and the instructors have all been great.
Shockwave Description: “Dubbed by the media as “the most efficient total-body workout in the world!” This circuit challenge utilizes the specially designed WaterRower machine to provide short-burst, high intensity, calorie-torching intervals along with functional strength and sculpting stations designed to target and chisel the legs, the core and the arms. You will find yourself working harder than you ever imagined because of the camaraderie, friendly team competition and motivation designed to push you to your max effort and provide extreme results.”
The class ended up being just me and Christina! She said it’s more fun when a lot of people are there but I still liked it. It felt like having my own personal trainer.
The class was 30 minutes long. There were 4 stations of exercises including the WaterRower machine (cardio), Bosu balance trainer with weights (legs), mats (core), and kettlebells (arms). This was a circuit workout where you are timed and you rotate through each station. Luckily the first circuit is the longest so you know it gets easier each time around. There was a timed goal for each distance on the rower:
This was my first time using a WaterRower and the first time in a long time using any kind of rower so at first I was a little uncertain what I was doing but once I got the hang of it I did pretty good!
Bottom Line: I really enjoyed this quick and effective workout class. I was stressing out this day about everything I needed to do so it was nice to take a 30 minute workout class and then get back to my to-do list. Studio ME Fitness also offers a 45 minute Shockwave class if you’re looking for a longer circuit workout. They also offer Indo-Row class where you get to use the WaterRower for the majority of the workout.
