This is a bold statement but I have to say that of the studios I’ve reviewed so far, Switch is my favorite! So much so that I go back regularly (3x/month as that is all ClassPass allows me).
Location: 4930 35th Street West, St. Louis Park, MN
About Switch: The website description says: “A boutique fitness studio featuring high-intensity, dynamic group training in an encouraging community of your teammates as well as individual coaching.” I discovered Switch through ClassPass and the studio reviews were excellent so I had to check it out for myself. Drew Coleman is the Owner and Head Coach and he is awesome! The workouts are hard and the people are great. Again, this is one of my favorite studios so far.
Switch Row: “A unique class that combines rowing intervals on water-based rowing machines with high-intensity strength circuits for an exciting workout that is a great balance of cardio and strength. Great for beginners, this low-impact 45 minute calorie-burner is as fun as it is challenging.”
My Experience: I had tried rowing classes before and didn’t really enjoy solely rowing for the entire class so this class combines rowing with strength training so I decided to check it out. The class I attended, the strength circuit focused on the core but Drew said the workouts vary each time. This was a great workout but rowing is still not my favorite. Drew recommended that next I try their Switch Circuit class so I did!
Switch Circuit: “This 60 minute class is an all-out total body burner that combines strength, balance, stability and cardio in a fast paced circuit style workout. These high intensity sessions will help you reach an all new level of overall fitness! Participants should be able to run, lift weights, and complete a full hour of exercise. Not recommended for those with injuries.”
My Experience: I love this class! 60 minute total body workout that combines intervals of cardio with circuits of strength training. Very good workout and Drew said the workouts vary each time. “Leg crank” was the theme for my first Switch Circuit class and we even incorporated running on the treadmill, which I loved. I have since been back to this class several times (as many as ClassPass allows) and the workout has always been great, with the exercise circuit being different each time.
What makes Switch different? Drew asked me what makes Switch different from other studios I have tried. I had a hard time describing it, but it is definitely different in a very good way! First, Drew is awesome! He creates great workout circuits and is super friendly and motivates without intimidation. I also like the smaller class sizes and everyone has been very nice and welcoming. I also like that the workouts are structured, you can go at your own pace but still structured so that everyone is doing the same thing at the same time. The workouts have been fun and challenging but Drew is knowledgeable about proper form and technique, which I appreciate. Overall, it is a great studio and I plan to continue visiting as often as possible!
