Welcome back to another edition of the Twin Cities Fitness Guide! Today I am writing about my experience at Title Boxing Club in Edina.
Studio: Title Boxing Club Edina
Location: 5300 Edina Industrial Blvd #100, Edina, MN 55439
What is it? “Founded in 2008 by retired professional boxer Danny Campbell, TITLE Boxing Club Edina is a health club that packs a punch.” They offer boxing and kickboxing classes as well as personal training services. They have weights, cardio and boxing equipment available for use and a boxing ring is also an option.
Boxing Class: 15 minute warm-up, 30 minutes of bag work, 15 minute wrap-up. During the bag work time, the class is divided into 3 minute rounds with 1 minute of active rest in between.
My Experience: The staff was really great. I arrived 20 min. early and they helped me get my hands wrapped, explained the layout of the class, and took me through some different types of boxing punches that I would need to know for during the class. The owner was also there and came over to introduce himself.
The class was a mix of males and females. The facility is quite large and the class was large as well. Each person claims a bag and the instructor is in the middle of the pack calling out the punches and demonstrating the combinations to do during each round.
During the wrap-up portion of the class, we did some core work on the floor and utilizing the bag when necessary. We ended the class with some stretching.
What Else to Know: The hand wraps cost $7 and are highly encouraged that you wear them. They help you wrap your hands properly and said they will do so as many times as it takes before you feel comfortable doing it yourself. The gloves are free to use but they are not the best. The owner explained that the free gloves are cheap and used a lot so if you are going to be coming back on the regular, it is a good idea to invest in a quality pair of boxing gloves. My hands were definitely cramping in the gloves towards the end of the class.
Bottom Line: I LOVED Title Boxing! I used to have a punching bag in my apartment back in the day; sometimes you just want to punch something, you know? I was worried that the class would be really hard and that my upper body would be too weak but I felt great the whole time, really worked out some aggression with my punching bag and got a great workout in! I would’ve like there to be more leg work such as kicking the bag, but I got some in during the freestyle rounds where you could do whatever punches or kicks you wanted. The instructor also incorporated leg work during the active rest periods. I highly recommend Title Boxing to anyone interested in taking a boxing class.
